Six Reasons a 6-pack is an awesome New Year’s Resolution

Doesn’t a six pack ab look amazing??  That great look isn’t the only reason for having one, however. Did you know that there are several health benefits of having a six pack? It’s true. Here are six of the most important ones:

  1. A six pack helps you maintain good posture through stronger abdominal muscles;
  2. A six pack strengthens your core and enables you to lift heavier weights, not just in the gym but at home with kids, grocery bags, heavy snow;
  3. A six pack lessens your chances of getting injured in sports and other physical activities;
  4. A six pack helps you avoid an abdominal hernia, as the muscles are strong and tight;
  5. A six pack helps protect your most important organs;
  6. A six pack means you have less belly fat, which is a leading cause for heart disease

Of course having a six pack means exercising regularly and eating right, two things we recommend to all of our patients, even those interested in laser liposuction!

Whatever Happened to Silicone Injections?

You undoubtedly have heard all kinds of things about silicone injections. Priscilla Presley’s beautiful face was literally ruined by lowgrade silicone injections that her doctor assured her were “better than Botox”. The photos at left show the damage.

Even though silicone injections are illegal here in the states, lots of women receive them, either knowingly or not, in their lips, buttocks, breasts and face. If you took a straw poll of your friends, we’re betting that most of them would not know that silicone was not approved for cosmetic uses. The FDA has not approved liquid silicone for any cosmetic purpose, which means that silicone cannot be legally advertised or sold in the US for injections into the body, such as for plumping lips, cheeks, breasts or otherwise.

Back in the ‘50’s, silicone was injected into the breasts, for augmentation purposes. Because this practice resulted in infection, deformities, lumps and bumps, it was eventually banned.

There are a multitude of substitutions for silicone injections, all of which work much better and, because they are not permanent, will “age with” your face. Permanent fillers, such as silicone, will not do this, resulting in a strange appearance as one ages. We here at the Reflections Center are always on top of not just the latest, but the safest and most effective, dermal fillers for our New Jersey and New York patients.

If you’d like to see how you might look with Botox or dermal fillers, check out our Botox Treatment Visualizer and/or our Juvederm Treatment Visualizer. It’s a private and fun way to see if Botox and fillers might be right for you!

Lipo is Top Op for British Men

According to the British press, there’s been a surge in the number of British men wanting a better looking body, and they’re choosing liposuction to get it. Witness their soccer star, Ronaldo, who had lipo on his abdomen last year. One wonders if this was the beginning of the rush, considering that since August of 2009, liposuction for UK men has increased by 117%!.

Before the increase in liposuction for the torso, UK men were most interested in eliminating their gynecomastia to avoid the look of Simon Cowell and his man boobs. Suddenly, however, they’re hot to trade their love handles for a 6-pack belly.

Here in the US, men’s cosmetic surgery procedures increased by 9% from 2008 to 2009, resulting in nearly a million surgical procedures, with lipo the top pick. Nose jobs, eyelid surgery, breast reduction and halr transplantation rounded out the top five American men’s procedures.

Here in our practice at Reflections Center in New Jersey, laser liposuction enables us to improve the contour with little to no downtime, using laser energy to create predictable results by targeting the energy to remove areas of fat. Local anesthesia is all that’s needed, giving you a comfortable experience, a faster recovery and less bruising. Tiny cannulae are used to extract the fat. It’s great for those who have tried dieting and exercise but, after childbirth or aging, find that targeted areas of stubborn fat still remain. Advantages over regular liposuction include skin tightening, with less risk of lumps and bumps that can happen with traditional lipo. SlimLipo’s wavelength melts the fat away, 7 times more than SmartLipo. Risks of burns is remarkably reduced—in fact, we’ve never seen a burn in our practice. Great for jowls, neck, male breasts and torso.

If you’re thinking about lipo, call us today and enjoy the feeling of less fat without a long recovery time!

Anti-Aging Never Tasted So Good!

Who doesn’t love ice cream and hate wrinkles? Probably no one. So imagine if there was a delicious ice cream on the market that had anti-aging properties? According to StyleList.com, an ingenious collaboration could make that concept a reality as early as 2015!

On September 16, global food and personal care giant Unilever signed an exclusive contract with Ampere Life Science, a biotechnology group, to focus on a new line of anti-aging products. The five-year contract will, according to Unilever, “build differentiated antioxidant-containing products spanning multiple product categories.”

Unilever is currently owns powerhouse food and personal care brands such as Ben & Jerry’s, Barilla and Dove. With extensive studies uncovering the numerous anti-aging and cancer-fighting benefits of antioxidants, there has been a boost in the popularity of antioxidant rich foods recently.

Just think of the fabulous anti-aging foods one could indulge in! Here at the Reflection Center for Skin & Body in New Jersey, we’re excited to see this project succeed.

Cosmetic Surgery Market Predicted to Double by 2017

According to Cosmetic Surgery Times, the market for cosmetic surgery is expected to double in size by 2017. The market, which consists of cosmetic surgery, lasers and facial aesthetics, is predicted to exceed $3 billion over the next seven years. The data for the prediction comes from iData Research, a Vancouver-based pharmaceutical market research firm.

According to the report, the market for wrinkle-reducing injections like Botox Cosmetic is expected to grow to approximately $543 million by 2017. The report also predicts that aesthetic light and laser therapy, as well as laser liposuction, will be the fastest-growing cosmetic segments.

There is no doubt that the aesthetic market has already grown quite a bit over the past few years. As technology advances, new and more effective procedures and drugs are put on the market. I guess we’ll just have to wait seven years to see if these predictions come true!
