The Science Behind Zeltiq
Zeltiq uses a revolutionary new technique called cryolipolysis. The vacuum applicator delivers controlled cooling to program your fat cells for elimination from the body while leaving the surrounding skin and muscle completely intact. 

This breakthrough in fat reduction was developed at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, a teaching affiliate of the Harvard Medical School.  Research done at the hospital showed fat cells to be more susceptible to cold than the surrounding tissues, and that they could be removed through the use of cooling without harming the skin. 

Zeltiq works by delivering a precise amount of cooling to the treatment area, enough to crystallize the fat cells but not harm skin and muscle.  The crystallized fat cells are then removed over time by the body’s natural processes, the same way fat in foods are eliminated.

Are You A Good Candidate for Zeltiq?

What to Expect During the Procedure
Zeltiq is a comfortable and relaxing procedure where you read a book or watch TV while the device does the work. 

It starts with the application of a thin gel pad on the area to be treated.  This gel pad helps the Zeltiq vacuum applicator to attach to the targeted area and insulates your skin during the treatment.

Once the gel pad is in place, the Zeltiq vacuum applicator is attached to the area of desired fat reduction.  The applicator uses suction to gently gather in the excess fat, drawing it in between two cooling panels.

When the procedure begins you will feel a cooling sensation and then the treatment area quickly goes numb. You sit or lie down for an hour as the fat inside the applicator is cooled.  The surrounding tissue remains unharmed while the fat is being treated. 

It takes one hour to treat an area.  Most patients treat two areas during their visit, such as both love handles or each side of the upper back, making a typical treatment session last two hours.  Your doctor will discuss how long your procedure will take during your complimentary consultation.

There is no recovery time required after Zeltiq, and you are free to resume your normal activities right away, including work and exercise.

What to Expect After the Procedure
In the weeks following your procedure, you will notice a gradual reduction in the thickness of the fat layer in the targeted area, with noticeable results and measurable fat reduction in two to four months.

The treated area will be red for about 20 minutes immediately after the procedure, and it might look or feel stiff, but this normally disappears within 10 minutes. Occasionally, patients may experience some localized bruising and tenderness as well.

You may also feel a temporary numbness in the treated area for a period of time after the procedure.  If this does occur, the time this sensation lasts varies by patient, with some people feeling numb for a few hours and others feeling numb for several weeks. Don’t be concerned, as over time all patients regain normal feeling in the treated area.

Within the first two weeks, some patients may also experience tingling sensations or soreness in the area as well.

How long do the results last?
Patients have maintained their results at least six months after the procedure. Longer-term studies have not been completed, but the results should last as long as laser liposuction, as both procedures result in the removal of the fat cells from the body.

How is the Zeltiq Procedure different from other procedures?
