This patient had a very deep scar next to his mouth, which we treated with subcision (using a needle to break up scar tissue below the skin’s surface) and filler used to “fill in” the indentation and smooth out the skin’s surface.
One thing patients often ask us about this type of treatment is “how long will the results from subcision last?” and it’s a fair question – you want to know exactly what you’re paying for. Now, there 3 main few factors that play into the duration of this treatment:
- Which type of filler is used – certain fillers last longer, but they also tend to be firmer, which makes them not appropriate for every part of the face or body
- Where and how that filler is placed – meaning is it microdroplets or larger boluses, or perhaps threads? and is it close to the skin’s surface, or deeper in the skin, or even beneath the skin?
- Finally – and this is the part that makes it so hard to estimate – how much does this part of you move? Because movement breaks down fillers. And how fast does your body metabolize filler in general?
However, this patient’s results are looking good even after 2 years in a high-movement area, and that is something we see quite frequently in our patients.
