This young female patient was hoping to resurface her skin to smooth out acne scars. She had fairly deep and significant scarring leftover from cystic acne. Her scar types included boxcar scars, ice pick scars, and rolling scars. While she did have some discoloration, it was fairly mild compared to her textural concerns.
We used Radiofrequency Microneedling (RF Microneedling) to begin this patient’s treatment journey. After several sessions of that specialized microneedling, we did 1 session of subcision followed by injections with dermal filler injections. While RF Microneedling helps provide wide-ranging textural resurfacing, subcision releases and breaks up the deepest tethered scars and then dermal fillers are used to fill in and support from below. This creates an impressive impact, but does not work for all scar types, and is not feasible to be done for the entire face. So by combining these 2 techniques, we’re able to create both widespread changes, and big changes to her skin texture. As with all acne scar treatments, improvement is the goal, and she will likely undergo more treatments in the future.
If you want to discuss non-surgical acne scar removal options, we warmly welcome you to our offices for a complimentary one-on-one consultation with one of our cosmetic physicians.
