One of the telltale signs of aging is thinner skin. As early as your 30s or 40s, you’ll likely notice it first in areas like the face and neck – especially where you might not have paid much attention before. If you’re beginning to notice thinner, saggy skin, you’re in luck – it’s actually the best time to begin exploring collagen remodeling, or the process of enhancing your skin’s intrinsic quality by harnessing its own healing ability. Sofwave is our number one preferred technology for collagen remodeling and the results speak for themselves. Here’s what to know about Sofwave and how it can actually create better skin.
What is Collagen Remodeling?
Collagen remodeling, or collagen induction therapy (CIT) is a process that induces the growth of new collagen in the skin. Collagen is a soft tissue that is plentiful in your skin, especially when you’re young. It acts as a supportive matrix that gives your skin its elasticity and helps it snap back into place when moved. Your skin naturally produces more collagen as a way to heal itself when you experience a cut or scrape. Collagen remodeling harnesses this process by generating microscopic injuries in the skin and prompting the body to fill them in with healthy new collagen. The result is an increase in the skin’s thickness and elasticity, recapturing some of its youthful quality.
How Does Sofwave Work?
Sofwave works by using ultrasound energy that targets the dermis, or the middle layer of the skin. There, it generates small, controlled wounds to prompt the skin to heal itself. Over time, (and with a single treatment!) it can improve the skin’s quality, causing it to become thicker, bouncier, and more youthful. The visible result is a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles – especially ones that form as a result of facial expressions. Sofwave is also an incredibly flexible treatment that can be used to treat cellulite, making it one of the few no-needle treatments for this common skin problem. It’s one of many reasons that Sofwave is one of our favorite technologies – period.
What Makes Sofwave Unique?
Although Sofwave works similarly to other collagen remodeling treatments like microneedling, it doesn’t actually injure the surface of the skin. In fact, with its ultrasound technology, it can target about 1.5mm under the skin in the dermis, the layer where collagen first begins to break down. There, it creates tiny injuries that prompt the skin to create new collagen. Treatments like microneedling that create microinjuries in the surface of the skin can require minimal downtime for that exact reason – Sofwave, on the other hand, does not. It’s one of the few truly no-downtime collagen remodeling technologies available.
