“I didn’t want to look unnatural” but I went to see a Cosmetic Doctor about Anti-Aging Treatments
“I had seen women in the past whose skin had a bit of a, for lack of a better word, a plastic sheen to it, and I certainly didn’t want to have the result be like that.”
Mary Lou is a patient of Dr. Wix-Harris’ who chose Botox and laser treatments to treat some signs of aging, particularly a dark spot on her cheek. She shares that prior to starting her treatment, looking natural and still like herself was one of her top priorities. “I had seen women in the past whose skin had a bit of a, for lack of a better word, a plastic sheen to it, and I certainly didn’t want to have the result be like that.” She was also hesitant to try more invasive procedures, like surgery. “I didn’t want to inflict additional discomfort on myself, but I was very concerned with the results. I was interested in it being very natural; I didn’t really want to change how I generally looked,” she explains.
With these concerns in mind, Dr. Wix-Harris suggested a series of laser treatments for Mary Lou’s dark spots (caused by sun damage) and Botox for her fine lines and wrinkles. Reflections Center offers a wide range of laser treatments to treat age spots or sunspots, and as an expert in these treatments, Dr. Wix-Harris can suggest the appropriate treatment for each patient’s unique needs, preferences, and goal results. For this patient, Fraxel Dual Restore was the ideal laser for removing her sun damage and resurfacing her skin.
“It didn’t stop me at all from going about my normal activities.”
One of the benefits of the treatment plan that Dr. Wix-Harris developed for Mary Lou is that she achieved her goal results without any downtime. Laser treatments involve some healing and recovery after your procedure, but you don’t need to take time away from your regular routine throughout this process. “When the treatment first ended, it felt like my face had a bad sunburn,” Mary Lou describes. “I looked at myself in the mirror, it was fairly red. Over the first few days certainly the redness subsided, and any discomfort subsided, but I did get some tightening and some flaking at about day three. I would say day four it was maybe at its maximum, but it didn’t stop me at all from going about my normal activities.” Finally, Mary Lou’s skin began to peel as the dead skin cells sloughed away, which is expected. By day seven, all side effects had subsided, and she could see her results. “My skin appeared much smoother, the dark spots and any discoloration were significantly minimized having had three treatments.”
With laser treatments, your results will continue to improve over time. Mary Lou noted that her best results were seen a few months after her three sessions of Fraxel Dual Restore laser treatments were complete. “It got progressively clearer and smoother as each week went by.” A brown spot on her cheek that had always bothered her was gone, and those around her noticed a change. However, the results were subtle and natural enough that Mary Lou found that “people didn’t know that I necessarily had any kind of special treatment done.” Instead, they just shared compliments, saying things like “Mary Lou, your skin looks great. Did you go on vacation?”
